BOTETOURT COUNTY -
Botetourt County families and businesses face a potential water and sewer rate increase in the new year.
The Board of Supervisors is considering a proposal that would increase the monthly service charge for homes by 20%, and raise water prices by 11%.
Sewer increases would be either 10 or 20%, depending on if you're a county water customer or not.
Businesses face a 13% increase for water and sewer rates.
The county cites a projected increase in operating expenses of $400,000 over the next five years, and needed well projects of more than $2 million dollars for the rate hike.
The board of supervisors will hold a public hearing on the proposal this afternoon during its meeting at the Greenfield Education and Training center in Daleville. The public hearing is expected to start at 3:00 p.m.
