The number of people traveling this holiday season is
expected to be higher than last year.
According to AAA, about 2.7 million Virginians will
be driving or flying.
Hotels in the Roanoke Valley are hoping to attract some
of those extra travelers.
Hotels in Virginia's Blue Ridge have seen an increase in room sales this year.
From January to October, sales were up 3.4%.
Landon Howard, President of the Roanoke Valley Convention
and Visitors Bureau, says that success makes him hopeful that the area will see
good numbers during the holiday season.
Howard says, " We are collecting more bed tax than
at any point in our history for our region and it's good to see that particular
category related to tourism doing well. And we are hopeful that will continue
The Bureau spoke with multiple hotels who report December numbers are up slightly or the same as last year.
