On Friday, the city of Salem host the 41st annual Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. This year's game feature a familiar match-up between Mt. Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater. The two teams have played each other in the D-III football championship several times before. While it may seem like Deja-Vu, some local store owners said the repeat battle is good for business
"I know a lot of the football customers by name they come back every year" said Bob Rotanz, Mac and Bob's co-owner.
Rotanz said each year fans return to many of the same restaurants, hotels and stores. Some have become year round customers.
"We've had a lot of customers from Mt. Union that stop in this area and spend time in the valley and then go to the Outerbanks" said Rotanz.
This year's STAGG bowl falls on a weekend when many people will be out shopping for Christmas. Local businesses hope to see more people come to their stores. Managers at Countryside Classic expect this year's game to increase holiday sales.
'On top of the game being right before Christmas the increased business will add another 20% to 30% of walk-ins" said Josh May, manager at Countryside Classics.
While it seems the same two teams play year after year, business owners said this one game has a significant impact on the local economy.
