Vinton Police take woman into custody after chase

VINTON, VA -

Vinton Police are waiting on the outcome of an Emergency Custody Order evaluation, following a police chase on Friday morning.

According to Lieutenant Mark Vaught, an officer was on patrol on Virginia Avenue, when he noticed a woman tailgating him so closely, that he could not see the woman's front bumper.

The woman then passed the patrol officer, and merged back in front, causing the officer to hit his brakes to avoid a crash.

The officer then activated his siren and lights, and attempted to pull the woman over. Instead, the woman sped off.

Lt. Vaught says a chase went into Roanoke County, before returning into Vinton, and eventually ending on Mountain View Road in the Falling Creek subdivision near the Parkway bridge.

The woman ran out of her car, and into a home. Officers went inside, found the woman, and took her into custody.

Officers obtained an Emergency Custody Order, and Lt. Vaught says criminal charges are pending. The woman's name was not released on Friday.
