Thousands attend Roanoke Dickens of a Christmas event

Posted: Updated:
Despite the warm weather, there was snow in downtown Roanoke Friday night.

As promised by Downtown Inc. , 10 tons of snow was delivered from a company in North Carolina who specializes in making artificial snow.

Hundreds of children stood in line waiting for a turn to sleigh ride down the perfect slope. For most of them it was the first time they've gone sledding all winter.

Some ventured for a warmer ride that took them back in time with an old fashion horse drawn carriage ride, downtown christmas celebration that got everyone in the holiday spirit. It was an atmosphere that seemed to have everyone in the holiday spirit, except for a theatrical Scrooge that was mulling about downtown saying "Humbug" to everyone he passed.

Among the unique vendors set up for last minute Christmas shoppers, were delectable homemade treats like fudge of almost any flavor you could imagine and the always popular kettle corn stand.

 T
here was even something for mans best friend who showed up in the masses sporting their best holiday attire for the costume contest.

Good food, good fun and warm weather all night with just a hint of snow seemed to make the perfect holiday celebration.
