Roanoke Walmart Supercenter power outage affects nearby businesses & neighborhoods

UPDATE 10:15 p.m. - Power has been restored to the Walmart Supercenter. The power line that burned out has now been fixed. About 11,000 customers were affected by the outage.

UPDATE 9:25 p.m. - WSLS 10's Erin Brookshier says an Appalachian Power representative expects the power to be back on by 11 p.m. tonight.  Right now, 11,000 customers are without power in the Clearbrook and Cave Spring Area. The representative says a power line burnt out.

Several businesses and homes are being affected because of the power outage.

Customers are being evacuated from the Walmart Supercenter on Clearkbrook Village Lane in Roanoke.

A Walmart representative says a transformer blew up around 8 p.m. Sunday night.

The power is now out and the store is closed until further notice.

The representative also told WSLS a neighborhood nearby is being affected by the transformer explosion.

That neighborhood is without power.
