Krispy Kreme isn't only business to receive new location

Posted: Updated:
While Roanoke is excited to have its Krispy Kreme back, many are wondering what will happen to Appliance Outlet, a tenant of that location on Hershberger Road for 25 years.

The building which is currently houses Appliance Outlet will be demolished in the near future and rebuilt as the new home for Krispy Kreme.

While the sun may be setting on this building, Appliance Outlet is preparing for a new start, just half a mile down the road. It’s a move that Owner Steve Genger says will make it cheaper to operate.

“It will be nice going from a mortgage and a lease to no mortgage or lease at all,” Genger said.

This is expected to help with the businesses overhead.

“We are excited that we might be able to offer lower prices to our customers,” Genger said.

The location is no stranger to change. Before Genger made this building into an appliance store, it was once a Wendy’s. A business that 25 years later still sticks out in customers minds.

“Even just last month we had someone in asking for a hamburger,” Genger said.

Genger jokes that after their long tenure it’s possible that customers could soon come to the Krispy Kreme looking for refrigerators. No worries though, they’ll be right down the road.
