COLUMBIA, SC (RNN) – The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Akron Zips in a 78-45 rout in Columbia on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (5-6) have won three of their last four games and hope to close out 2013 with a .500 record.

South Carolina held on to small leads throughout the first half, and had a 30-24 halftime lead over the Zips (6-5). The Gamecocks went on a 13-0 run in the middle of the second half, and led by as many as 20 points in that span.

Guard Brenton Williams was South Carolina's leading scorer with 24 points. The home team went 14-for-19 at the free throw line and eight-of-15 from 3-point range.

The Gamecocks will host the Marshall Thundering Herd on Monday, Dec. 30.
