UPDATE: Charges in Giles Co. animal abuse case

Posted: Updated:
GILES COUNTY, VA - January, 24, 2014 UPDATE:

Giles County police say Lee Ann Mundy appeared in court today, and was found guilty on two counts of animal cruelty.  The judge ordered that Mundy cannot have animals of any kind for at least a year.  She was also forced to surrender all of her animals over the the sheriffs office.

This comes more than a month after police found several underfed and starving animals at her Pembroke house.  Police say they found three horses-- all at a body score of two or less, on a scale of ten.  They also found four pot belly pigs, three dogs and several other animals-- all looked to be underfed as well.  These animals were all taken to the Roanoke Horse Rescue, where they're receiving treatment.

December 30, 2013: The Giles County Sheriff's office says charges are pending in a recent animal abuse case.

Deputy Jeff Spicer says Lee Ann Mundy, of Pembroke, is facing four counts of animal cruelty, and four summonses for inadequate care of animals.

Back on December 20, someone who lives in the area told animal control they needed to check on some horses on a small farm. When police arrived, they say they found three horses-- all at a body score of two or less, on a scale of ten. They also found four pot belly pigs, three dogs and several other animals-- all of which looked to have been underfed.

The animals were taken from the farm. Since then, some of them have been receiving treatment at the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue.

Police say Mundy posted a $2,000 unsecured bond. She has an arraignment hearing set for Friday, January 3.
