Hookah lounge opening in Downtown Roanoke

Posted: Updated:
The owner of a Lebanese restaurant in Downtown Roanoke plans to open a hookah lounge just a few stores down early in 2014.

Gaby Saliba tells WSLS 10 he decided to start the business after customers at his restaurant Cedar's repeatedly asked him if hookah was something he'd consider selling.  Because of health regulations, he's unable to do that at his restaurant.  He ultimately felt, though, there was a market for it in Downtown Roanoke -- so he purchased the space next to Awful Arthur's (which is currently used by Picaso's Italian Grill) to make it happen.

The name of the lounge will be "Hookah On The Market."  Saliba says he envisions a "relaxed atmosphere" where people can smoke hookah and order drinks.

He says he's currently working on getting all the permits and approvals he needs in order, but hopes to have Hookah On The Market up and running within the next two months.  Picaso's will remain open until he gets the permits.
