RALEIGH, N.C. -

A former News & Observer staff writer unemployed since 2011 has started an Indiegogo campaign asking for donations to help him pay his rent.

Craig Lindsey was laid off in 2011, according to his campaign's web page. He writes that he's "been trying to get some steady work ever since." Lindsey wrote movie reviews for the features section of the newspaper.

Lindsey says that he's only looking for $900 by the end of this week, enough money to be current on his rent. He goes on to say that he's beginning to question the profession he's chosen.

"As I go into my fourth year of joblessness, with little to no prospects on the horizon, I've often felt I made a huge mistake choosing this line of work," he writes. "I also feel I've made a bigger mistake moving to an area where there's not a lot of demand for my line of work."

Lindsey says that he has no family in the area and that his friends have tried helping him in the past, but they have problems of their own they need to focus on.

As of Thursday morning, Lindsey had raised $4,545.
