State Police investigating shooting in Franklin County

Fred Bowles says around 10 p.m. he heard a loud bang outside his home on Prillaman Road in Ferrum.

Bowles says two men held him and his girlfriend Chris Behrens at gun point.

"He tore everything apart," Fred Bowles says. "He was aiming to shot somebody, but I kept getting in his way."

Bowles says he has a lot of medication in the house because he has terminal liver cancer and his girlfriend is a paraplegic.


Update 2:47 p.m.
State Police say a robbery ended in a shoot-out with police in Franklin County. The incident began after 10 p.m. Tuesday night, when two armed men entered a home on Prillaman Switch Road in Ferrum. They confronted the homeowner, who fired at the intruders, who fired back.  A 911 call made from the home before the shots started brought Franklin Co. Sheriff's Office and Ferrum Police. When police arrived, the robbers tried to leave, exchanging gunfire with police outside the home.

One Franklin Co. Sheriff's Deputy was wounded and taken to a local hospital. His injuries are described as "non life threatening". No one in the home was injured. One of the robbers, a 31-year old Henry Co. man, was also wounded in the shoot-out. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
 
The other alleged robber, Christopher Hardin Jr., was able to flee the scene. Police surrounded the area and, with the help of a police helicopter, Hardin was found and arrested just after midnight.. State police say a handgun was recovered. Hardin, age 34, is being held at the Western Va. Regional Jail on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

State police also say they seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia from inside the residence.
 

Update 1:15 p.m.

State Police tell us Christopher Hardin is in jail in connection to the officer involved shooting in the Ferrum area. He's charged with robbery of a resident and assault with a firearm.

State Police say they are investigating a shooting in Franklin County. 

Franklin County Sheriff's Office say police were dispatched for an alleged home invasion.

The incident occurred Tuesday night in a Franklin County home near Prillaman Switch Road in the Ferrum area.
