Milligan men's basketball suffers nail-biter to V-I

BRISTOL, VA - Torian Sitton gave the Milligan men’s basketball team the lead with 18 seconds left, but Virginia Intermont’s Ben Sealey scored the game winner Wednesday night as the Buffaloes fell to the Cobras, 73-72, in AAC action.

Milligan (8-7, 3-5 AAC) lost its fifth straight, during which time its average margin of defeat is 5.6 points. The last two losses have been by a combined four points. Virginia Intermont improved to 6-9, 4-4 AAC.

Trailing by one, Sitton came up with a steal with 23 seconds left and was fouled five seconds later before knocking down two clutch free throws to give the Buffaloes a 72-71 advantage. Sealey, who finished with seven points, scored his only bucket of the second half on the next possession.

Morgan McLeod led Milligan with 21 points and eight rebounds. Cartree Pettis registered 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. The pair had three steals and two blocks apiece.

While seven other Buffaloes made it into the scorebook, Sitton was the only one to make it to double figures. The senior had 12 points and seven rebounds.

VIC’s JD Tucker led all scorers with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Joshua Hart had 21 points for the Cobras.

Milligan will return home Saturday for a nonconference meeting with Virginia University of Lynchburg. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m., immediately following the women’s game.
