RALEIGH, N.C. -

The City of Raleigh has been working to ease traffic congestion by synchronizing stop lights in the city.

Engineers say the synchronization of the city's 614 traffic lights will save drivers more than $18 million per year in gas and time saved.

"We'll have reduced the amount of time commuters to get from point A to point B. Save them gas and give them more time to do whatever the please," said Jed Niffenegger, senior transportation engineer for the City of Raleigh.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
