UPDATE: Police charge man in fatal accident, names released

AYDEN, N.C. -
The Ayden Police Department charges the driver in a fatal accident. Chief Barry Stanley says Omar Ridhi El-Shaer of Grifton NC was driving a white Ford Expedition Saturday evening and crashed into a Honda Civic.

Police charged El-Shaer with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Careless and Reckless Driving, and Failure to Reduce Speed. 
 
The passenger of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at Vidant Medical Center. Police identified him as 57-year-old Kenneth Earl Mozingo of Ayden.
 
The driver of the Honda was Mozingo’s son, Justin Louis Mozingo. His condition is not known at this time.

The Ayden Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that happened Saturday evening near the Walmart Express.

Chief Barry Stanley tells 9 On Your Side that around 6:40 pm a Honda Civic was slowing down to turn into the Walmart Express on NC 102 West and was rear ended by a White Ford Expedition.

In each of the vehicles were a father and son. Chief Stanley says a passenger inside the Honda Civic died as a result of the crash.  Stanley says the Expedition was following the speed limit, 55 mph.

The State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation. Police are not releasing the names of the passengers until they notify next of kin.
