WNCN Today launches new 11 a.m. newscast

RALEIGH, N.C. -

WNCN launched a new half-hour of local news programming, "WNCN Today @ 11AM," on Monday, Jan. 27.

This late-morning, weekday newscast is the first of its kind in the Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville television market, but that is nothing new for WNCN. The station was also the first to introduce a newscast weeknights at 7 p.m.

"We work sincerely to serve the needs of our community every day," says WNCN Vice President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "This is a new opportunity to share the latest news and weather information at a time that is more convenient for many of our viewers."

The newscast will feature WNCN's same trustworthy morning news team: Phil Sanchez, Sharon Tazewell, Page Crawford, meteorologist Bill Reh and newly-added meteorologist Alyssa Corfont. The team's mission will be empowering viewers using a heavy emphasis on live local coverage. Like other newscasts on WNCN, the program will be streamed live on WNCN.com.

"My Carolina Today," which is also produced by WNCN, shifts to 11:30 a.m. Hosts Valonda Calloway and Mike Morse showcase the best the state has to offer in a second consecutive half-hour of live local programming. The show is also streamed live on WNCN.com. NBC Early Today will now air weekdays at 4:30 a.m.

The lineup changes come just in time for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, for which WNCN is Raleigh's official home. The Olympic Games will be broadcast Feb. 6-23 and are expected to attract a large viewing audience. Click here for complete program listings.
