3 families without home after Danville apartment fire

DANVILLE, VA -

A Danville apartment fire sent one person to the hospital and leaves three families without a home.

Danville Fire Battalion Chief B.K. Shields says the fire happened in the 2700 block of West Main Street Saturday afternoon. 

When crews arrived everyone was out of the apartments.

One apartment has moderate damage with the kitchen area receiving heavy fire damage.

One person was treated and taken to Danville Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation.

The fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal and the cause determined as unattended cooking.

The Red Cross is assisting with lodging for the displaced occupants.

Crews remained on scene for about 1 hour 45 minutes.
