Former W&L student charged with manslaughter in fatal crash

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, VA - (Updated Jan 30, 2014)

State Police tell WSLS 10 that Nicholas Perry Hansel, a  former student at Washington and Lee University, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and maiming another as a result of driving under the influence.

A total of ten students were involved in the wreck, which happened along Turkey Hill Road. Senior Kelsey Durkin was killed, and several other students were hurt in the crash.

 Nicholas Hansel of New Orleans, has already been charged with DUI in this case. Hansel is no longer a student at W&L, and his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been suspended by the Washington and Lee for at least three years in the aftermath of this incident.
