Red Cross needs blood donations because of winter weather

ROANOKE - The winter weather has caused a number of problems, but one we might not always think about is blood supply. The American Red Cross has had to cancel more than 50 blood drives in this region during the last week due to snow and ice, which means a shortfall of about 15 hundred blood platelet products. The greatest need is for blood types O-negative, O-positive, A-negative and B-negative. There are a number of donation events scheduled across the state in the coming weeks, including one in Blacksburg on Tuesday. To find out more information, you can visit redcrossblood.org.
