Buchanan is getting set to open a new parking lot along the James River.
The town recently bought the land and tore down an abandoned car wash to build the new lot.
Mayor Larry Hall said it will help accommodate tourists at the walking bridge across the river, while also bringing them closer to some of the town's other attractions.
"We're now digging up the gauge locke and hope to turn it into a tourist attraction," Hall said. "Plus, the parking downtown. It's a need we've had for a long time."
Construction on the lot is expected to wrap up today.
