Appomattox Co. murder suspect arrested in Washington Co.

Appomattox County Sheriff Barry Letterman says a suspect accused of murdering his estranged wife has been arrested.

Aubrey Evans III, 69 has been arrested in Washington County. Police say he was spotted on Interstate 81 by Washington County police and was arrested without incident.

The shooting happened last Friday, January 31, at the Quik-E gas station on Court Street in Appomattox County.

Police say Evans shot and killed his estranged wife, 45-year-old Laura Woody Evans who was sitting in her car at the gas station.

Aubrey Evans III was wanted on first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and use of a firearm in commission with a felony.
