Salem Police announce changes in rank

Posted: Updated:

Salem Police Chief, Jeff Dudley, announced several promotional appointments at a ceremony at the department on Monday.

Senior Animal Control Officer, Brian Hicks, was appointed to the rank of Sergeant this morning. Hicks will now oversee the Animal Control unit of the Salem Police Department as he replaces Lt. Bill Bandy, who retired January 31 after nearly 32 years of service to the city.

Sgt. Hicks joined the Salem P.D. in January of 2004 and worked as a police officer before transferring to Animal Control in December 2007.

Also, Chief Dudley announced a reorganization that changes the rank of two individuals. Deputy Chief,

Tim Guthrie, is now Major/Deputy Chief and Lieutenant Mike Green has been appointed Captain of Patrol. Green will oversee the patrol function of the department and coordinate the activities of the four patrol platoons that provide around the clock services to the community.

Green has been with the department since 1984. Prior to this appointment, he has spent time as a lieutenant in both the detective and patrol divisions.
