Roanoke County searches for bank robbery suspect

Police tell Katie Love that the suspect is a white male in his late 20's between 6 foot and 6 foot 3. He was wearing a ski mask, black hoodie, a light brown Carhartt shirt, blue jeans and dark shoes. The suspect was used a handgun to get an undisclosed amount of money from the Union First Market Bank before leaving on foot. While no one was injured, the Roanoke County Police Department requests that any information relating to the robbers identity is to call 562-3265.

Lockdown on schools in the 419 area (Roanoke County and North Cross) have been lifted. Police are still looking for armed robber who left Union First Market Bank on Electric Rd. on foot. Assistant Police Chief describes suspect as a white male wearing a large jacket. Detectives are reviewing surveillance to get a better description that they can release to the public. They ask anyone with information on the suspect to call 911. Police could not answer whether the suspect took off with any stolen money. Heavy police presence will be in the Cave Spring area for the next few hours.

Roanoke County Police and eight local schools are reacting after an apparent bank robbery attempt on the corner of Electric Rd. and Colonial Ave. A male suspect who police believe to be armed left the scene on foot. Schools and day care centers in the area have been put on lockdown as a precaution. Police say 7 organizations are on lockdown, but would not name them.

Roanoke County Schools provided the following list of lockdowns:

  • Cave Spring Elementary School
  • Cave Spring Middle School
  • Cave Spring High School
  • Green Valley Elementary School
  • Hidden Valley High School
  • Oak Grove Elementary School
  • Penn Forest Elementary School

 

North Cross School confirms that they are also locked down.

Both police and the school say they will release more info soon.
