Parents concerned after arrest made in front of elementary school

Posted: Updated:
Parents at Falling Branch Elementary School in Christiansburg are raising concerns once again about a “park and ride” that sits directly across from the school.

Parents were notified Tuesday of an arrest that was made by the U.S. Marshal Service after a man was removed from the mega bus which makes stops at the park and ride.

Parents say the arrest was made at gun point.

In the past the elementary school has had issues with people who are waiting in the parking lot coming on to school property.

While waiting for the mega bus, many have come to the school looking to use the schools facilities and bathrooms.

Since then the school has put up no trespassing signs which has helped.

While the school says that students were in no way in the line of danger, parents again are pushing the issue.

Parents WSLS spoke with say it was a potentially dangerous situation.

“It’s a scary sight, and again just reiterates that until this park and ride is removed from Falling Branch Elementary School, it will be a safety and security threat,” said mother Sherri Blevins.

She’s been working on having this park and ride removed for some time, and even though her child has since graduated from the school, she says she wants to see it through.

Falling Branch PTA President Tracy Hurst says that she received multiple calls and text messages from concerned parents.

“Obviously based on the events that happened today it is providing a real threat to our children. Anytime our children are basically fifty feet away from a situation where guns are drawn its just something that is unacceptable and needs to be moved,” Hurst said.

Several parents spoke out at Tuesday nights school board meeting about the issue, and say they plan on taking the matter to the state level.

Parents did point out that they are happy with the way the school has handled the situation, but are pushing local elected officials and VDOT to correct the problem.

WSLS will continue to keep you updated with the latest.
