Roanoke sees growth in restaurant industry in 2014

Posted: Updated:

Six restaurants have opened new locations or are in the process of expanding in downtown Roanoke.

Economic Development Specialist, Lisa Soltis, says that all of the downtown development projects that are in the works played a role in the increase of openings.

She predicts that the new hotel, Market Square, and Elmwood Park will draw more people downtown which will lead to more people eating at downtown restaurants.

Alex Eliades, owner of Breadcraft, says he is excited about all of the new development.

Eliades is opening a new location on Jefferson Street later this year.

He predicts the new developments will lead to more people dining at his new location.

And drawing new people in is extremely important for Eliades.

He says getting more people through the doors and spreading the word about his food is how his business will grow as he doesn't currently use advertisements.

The Economic Development department has also seen an increase in the number of restaurant owners calling to discuss opening locations in the downtown area.

Soltis says there's a possibility we could see more restaurants open later this year.
