A message from Baby Cory's mother

Posted: Updated:
It's a pain that runs so deep, Samantha Warden says it's almost unbearable.

She showed us pictures of her little boy Cory Cole. Investigators found the five-month-old dead in the woods on Thursday, January 30th. Samantha says it's painful to talk about her situation with the media, but she wants to be able to help others.

"I think it's important for people to pay attention to what's taken place and I want to be able to help another child not go through what my son went through," mother Samantha Warden says.

Samantha admits Howard Cole was abusive to her sometimes when they were together.

"When he was drunk, he would physically abuse me. He didn't do it all the time," Samantha Warden says. "He never hurt my children though."

Samantha says the majority of the good times with Cole  outweighed the few bad. She emphasized that the abuse only extended toward her and she never let Cole touch any of her three children. She says she always protected them.

She has this message for other parents in similar abusive situations:

"If your in a situation at all like mine, pease get your babies and run because you could be sitting in my shoes going through right now," Warden says.

She says after Cole spent some time in jail for stealing a car, he promised he would stop using drugs, alcohol, and stop the abuse. She says she never imagined she would be here today without her son.

Samantha invites the public to Cory's viewing and funeral Thursday at noon at Bowers Funeral Home. She asks for people to wear blue in honor of her son. Payments for the funeral arrangements were donated, but the family is also hoping to raise some money for a headstone for Cory's grave.

Brush Arbor Worship Center is helping collect donations for the headstone. You can call
540-320-4797 or visit the church at 410 Newbern Rd, Pulaski, VA.
