    The 11th annual Knights Crossing cross country meet was held Saturday at Green Hill Park in Salem. The Blacksburg Girls looked strong as always in the event held by Cave Spring High School. The 4th ranked team in the nation took the Girls Team Title in the Girls Red 5k. E.C. Glass sophomore Libby Davidson took first place overall in the event. She set the course record, running a 17:36.7 minute mile.

     Programs rise and fall based upon what happens on national signing day. At Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer signs one of his largest groups in years. Of the 28 new Hokies nine have national rankings.  The Hokies are adding local flavor as Carson Wise will join Frank Beamer's team as a preferred walk-on from Blacksburg High.  And down at Dan River Terrell Edmunds--who's brother Trey is a running back for the Hokies signs on today. Edmunds will play for Bud Foster in the defensive backfield.  He was a standout for his father, Coach Ferrell Edmunds who a former Miami Dolphins Tight End.

   At Northside--home of the state champion Vikings, Coach Burt Torrence's star defensive tackle DeAnthony Muse will take his formidable presence to the University of Richmond where he could play almost immediately.

   At Patrick Henry the Cavaliers of Virginia were front and center. That national power of a soccer program will welcome the Patriots Emmanuel Scere to the fold. He was a standout for both PH and also the Roanoke Star soccer club.

 At Cave Spring High School a terrific trio moves on. The three include track and field star Emily Fulton, the daughter of the head football coach Tim Fulton. She is headed to VMI.  Alongside one of the top distance runners in the nation, Katie Fortner is headed to Clemson to run for the Tigers in the ACC. And in volleyball the perennial state final four Knights of Tamilyn Tanis send setter Olivia Sass to Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania.

 

 

 To Radford High School where James Williams will put his track and field talents to work in Charlottesville.  He's a nationally ranked thrower of heavy implements. The bobcats star is the area's leader in discus and is ready to be a Wahoo.

 

  At Blacksburg high school the bruins sign six to the next level.  Hokies defensive line coach Charlie Wiles sees his daughter Kendall sign on at Indiana as a track and field athlete. Adam Peton will play football at the University of Charleston, Carley Graves will play soccer at Concord, Ken Hagan is set to head to UVA in for track and field. And McKenzie Raber will swim at VMI.

   At William Byrd a pair of soccer players move on. Heather Crouch who is headed to Tusculum, and Carlee Andersen will be attending VMI.
