Fungal meningitis victims will be in federal court today

Posted: Updated:

Attorneys for 18 Southwest Virginia victims and their families of the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak will be in court today.

Attorneys will argue that the case against the company responsible, New England Compounding, should be heard by a judge in Roanoke.

A federal judge in Boston will hear the case today at 1:30 p.m.

64 people nationwide died after receiving the contaminated steroid including five in Southwest Virginia.

The family of one of the victims, Doug Wingate from Salem, settled a $25 million lawsuit earlier this week with Insight Imaging, which distributed the tainted shot in its Roanoke clinic.
