Straight Street Movie Casting Begins - WSLS 10 NBC in Roanoke/Lynchburg Va

Straight Street Movie Casting Begins

Posted: Updated:
Casting calls began Friday for a movie planned to begin filming in Roanoke in March.

The goal of the film is to raise money for Straight Street, a non-profit that provides a safe place for teenagers to spend time.

When we stopped by Greene Memorial Church Friday afternoon, there were several people waiting their turn to audition to be a part of the project.

Roanoke City Mayor, David Bowers says, "Everybody is going to be excited about this. Everybody wants to be in films. Everybody wants to be a star, after all we are the star city. It is going to bring some dollars into Roanoke probably. There is going to be a buzz among the community."

After talking to a woman who was helped as a teenager by Straight Street at age 18, we learned this movie is about more than filming.  The movie is about helping a local non-profit with a mission that is the only hope for future happiness for some people who feel they have no where else to turn.
