UPDATE: Crews clear incident causing major backup on I-81

VDOT reports the incident at mile marker 103 going northbound on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County is now clear.

Traffic is still moving slowly on the interstate so leave yourself some extra time today.

The massive backup on Interstate 81 in Pulaski County continues this morning.

The backup begins at mile marker 103 going Northbound.

VDOT said traffic is delayed 15 miles.

WSLS 10's Jade Hanson is live from the scene this morning.

She'll give you the latest on what you can expect.

We're continuing to follow a massive backup of traffic on Interstate 81 in Pulaski. According to VDOT, traffic is backed up at least 15 miles.

State police tell WSLS 10 an initial accident in Montgomery County started a chain reaction of backups and accidents. We're told there are multiple accidents and disabled vehicles are causing the backup. Multiple state troopers are currently on scene, along with several tow trucks.

A truck driver tells us he's been caught in the backup since 4:30 p.m. yesterday.
