Warmer weather helps SWVA snow plow drivers

SALEM, VA -

An update from VDOT's Salem District about plowing:

Virginia Department of Transportation equipment operators in western Virginia have made at least one pass over all secondary roads (those numbered 600 and above) and neighborhood streets making these roads passable.

Today, crews have been focusing on drifting snow and taking advantage of warmer temperatures to clean up intersections and push snow back off roadsides.

Tonight, equipment operators will be responding to refreezing and drifting snow as necessary.

Citizens can call 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) to report road concerns or ask road-related questions at VDOT's 24-hour Customer Service Center.

As a reminder, VDOT is not responsible for snow removal on private roads or driveways.  In addition, cities and larger towns perform their own snow removal.

The Salem District includes the counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke.
