RCACP adoption program helping save animals

Posted: Updated:
The Roanoke Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection has adopted out close to 300 animals in the first four months of it's adoption program.

Executive Director, David Flagler, says the program is going well and it's is helping save animals from being put to sleep.
Flagler says that without the program, the pound could have a big problem on it's hands. Over the last few months, local shelters have not been able to rescue as many animals from the pound as in the past.

The program has also helped the pound attract volunteers.

Flagler says there has been a change in energy at the pound since the program began.

The staff is excited to come to work knowing they can help find permanent homes for the animals that work with day in and day out.

The pound has been trying some new things to get more people to adopt from the pound.

To make adoptions from the pound more attractive, volunteers have been taking some dogs from the shelter to obedience classes on Saturdays.

The volunteers and staff have also organized adoption events over the last few months which have helped place many animals.
