Salem fire victims hope to move back home soon

Posted: Updated:
Three days later crews are still cleaning up the ashes left behind from the fire that forced more than forty people from their homes.

Only charred remains are left of the roof, and burnt family possessions

Tanika Barnes, a single mother of three lives here.

Her home escaped the blazes but was badly flooded. She spoke to us over the phone from the hotel room her family has been living in ever since what she describes as a terrifying night.

"I'm just traumatized by the flames and smoke and everything," Tanika said.

She says that after the flood water cleanup today ---she may be able to move back home tomorrow.

"We are very excited. We are ready to go back home. Living in a hotel is stressful because everything is so small but we are grateful to have a roof over our heads until then."

The cleanup will continue through the week. The fire marshal is still searching through the debris for the cause of the fire.
