Down for Downtown announces headlining act

Posted: Updated:
Organizers for the 5th annual Down by Downtown music festival in Roanoke announced they will be hosting the first show in the newly renovated Elmwood Park.

Headlining the festival this year is G. Love and special sauce, a band from Philadelphia which will be the first major show in the parks amphitheater.

The festival will also feature 40 performances at 20 different venues throughout the city.

Co-Organizer Bruce C. Bryan says the event continues to grow.

"Just to watch people enjoying the music and to start to talk about it. There is a lot of momentum now. I think having Elmwood Park and having a national act like G. Love being the first festival that is actually using Elmwood. Everyone is watching it being built and now everyone is actually going to get to experience it getting a great act. It’s really exciting.”

The festival is a partnership between Down for Downtown and the running of the foot levelers Blue Ridge marathon, half marathon and the first ever anthem "star-k" 10-k race.

Tickets go on sale March 4th. You can find out how to buy tickets here.
