Bobcats Basketball a Family Affair

Posted: Updated:

Radford High School's basketball program is one of the most successful in the state of Virginia. Bobcats head coach Rick Cormany has over 500 VHSL wins in his highly touted career and multiple state championships, the latest coming in the spring of 2013.

Despite the number of wins and the state title and state final 4 trophies in the hallways-- there are two more Cormanys who are considered by most to be the heart and soul of the team. They would be the head coaches' two boys--Cam and Gavin.

The two boys--ages 11 and eight-- are often spotted on the bench during warm ups and even on the court barking at players during practice-- taking a page out of dad's playbook. Members of the team say the boys encourage them to work harder and pick them up after a loss (as rare as losses have been the past few years).  But the bigger picture is summed up by coach himself "..there are a lot worse places to raise a kid than on a basketball court".
