One day after President Barack Obama announced plans to shrink the defense budget, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel will hold briefings about the decision's impact in the Norfolk area. He'll also meet with commanders at Langley Air Force Base before flying to Brussels, Belgium for the NATO Defense Ministers Conference.

Blacksburg's new police chief will take the oath of office at tonight's Town Council meeting. Captain Anthony Wilson will officially take over for retiring Chief Kimberley Crannis who will have her last day Friday. The meeting and ceremony starts at 7:30 in the Blacksburg Municipal Building.

It's All Nearby will have its grand opening today at Smith Mountain Lake. The business helps connect visitors to different activities going on at the lake. A ribbon cutting will be held at Blackwater Cafe beginning at 11:30.

First Lady Michelle Obama will visit parks and a recreation center in Miami for the fourth anniversary of her Let's Move campaign. The White House says Mrs. Obama will make a major announcement about healthy out-of-school time.
