ROANOKE -

Its been more than 16 months since the Taubman Museum of Art began offering free admission and so far the change is paying off.

In 2013, more than 82,000 people toured the museum, a number Taubman Director Della Watkins is happy with.

She expects that number to grow this year.

It's part of the museum's strategy to attract more people.

"I really see the museum beginning to have a Renaissance," she said. "It's a very lively environment. We're adding events one weekend, we now have extended hours, we have stronger membership."

The museum is in the process of developing its first long term strategic plan.

It will be unveiled this summer.
