Two firearms were found at the checkpoint in a passenger's bag at Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville Monday.

According to a Mark J. Howell, Transportation Security Administration regional spokesperson, said TSA agents found a loaded .38 caliber Charter 2000 revolver with five rounds and a loaded .22 caliber Jennings semi-automatic with six rounds in a passenger’s carry-on bag around 2:30 p.m.

The passenger was issued a criminal summons and was scheduled to appear in court in Sullivan County next week, TCRA spokeswoman said. The passenger also did have the proper permits to carry the firearms.

According to Howell, firearms may be transported in checked baggage if they are declared to the airline, are in a carrying case and are unloaded. Firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags.

“Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint,” Howell said. “Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.”
