VT's "The Big Event" recruiting volunteers

Posted: Updated:
The Big Event at Virginia Tech, the student-run community service organization which has grown into the 2nd largest event of its kind in the nation is now less than a month away.

Every spring, thousands of Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff work together to complete hundreds of community service projects throughout the New River Valley.

Projects are completed regardless of need or socioeconomic status; instead, organizers say it is The Big Event’s goal to simply say, “Thank you.”

Since its inception in 2002, the organization has gained over 7000 volunteers. Tuesday night, event organizers will be speaking with Blacksburg Town Council leaders about recruiting volunteers in the area.

Volunteer spots are open to the public. If you would like to learn how to volunteer visit The Big Event's website.

The 2014 event will be held on April 5th. The organization has budgeted $50,000 for the service project.
