Some of the families of the missing and murdered are working together to prevent further tragedies from happening to anyone else.

The families of Alexis Murphy, Morgan Harrington, and Dashad 'Sage' Smith all came together for an emotional discussion with WSLS 10 reporter Katie Love.

Alexis Murphy is a Nelson County teen who went missing in August and is presumed to be dead. Morgan Harrington was a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who was raped and murdered in 2009. Dashad Smith was 19-years-old when he went missing in 2012.

"I will go to my grave using every breath I have to make sure no other family will have to endure the type of pain that the families around this table have been endured," Angela Taylor, Alexis' aunt says.

Mother Gil Harrington has been working with the families to rally behind the 'Help Save the Next Girl' campaign.

"I know the agony and the pain families feel when their precious children are stolen and murdered," Gil Harrington, Morgan's mother says.

The Harrington's and the Murphy's connected with Lolita Smith. Smith is Dashad's grandmother.

"He's more like my son, than my grandson. We had a special bond and I know in my heart of hearts, he was taken." Lolita Smith, Dashad's grandmother says.

Smith says Dashad sometimes dressed as a woman and identified as transgender.

"My baby was beautiful male or female," Smith says. "It is what it is, but it didn't give anybody the right to take him."

Each families says they've endured scrutiny from people in the community who suggest their children 'deserved' what happened to them. They say people are particularly judgmental of photos posted by the victims on the Internet.

"People will say this or say that, but it wasn't the Internet who took our kid. It was a predator," Laura Murphy, Alexis' mother says.

It's judgement these women say they are slowly trying to change. They say for every hateful person, there's ten more good people who have supported them.

"This is certainly something that's life altering and I don't think anyone who has not been through this understands how life altering it is," Trina Murphy, Alexis' aunt says.

Now, these families have at least three questions:

Who killed Morgan Harrington?
    Where is Dashad Sage?
If Alexis Murphy is presumed dead, where is her body?

"It's just human decency to have her body back. Regardless or what ever else. It's just pure human decency, can we just have her body back please?" Trina Murphy, Alexis Murphy's aunt says.

"It's the not knowing part that eats away at you," Smith says. "I wonder if he's hungry, if he's cold, or is someone body hurting him."

Now, these families have a plea and a message to other families. They ask parents to teach their children to be aware and be alert.

They say they've lost too much to stand back and do nothing.
