Investigators say Plantation Road fire caused by space heater

ROANOKE COUNTY - 4:00 update: 

Investigators have determined that house fire on Plantation Road last night was caused by an electric space heater. The fire started, and was largely confined to, the "front left bedroom" according to a release from Roanoke County Fire & Rescue. With additional smoke and water damage in the rest of the house, damages reached roughly $40,000. The fire flared up at about 11:30 p.m.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue are on the scene of a fire in the 8000 block of Plantation Road.

The call came in around 11:20 p.m., according to dispatch.

When crews first arrived, they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a large picture window on the front of a single story house.

Firefighters from the Hollins and North County stations had the fire under control in less than 30 minutes. A crew from Roanoke city assisted with fire suppression efforts.

 There was heavy fire damage to one room and heat, smoke and water damage to the rest of the first floor. 

Three people were displaced and are staying with friends.  No one was hurt.

The fire marshal is investigating.
