Andy Marquis, CALLAWAY, VA :: Franklin County Speedway invites Danica Patrick and Richard Petty to a one-on-one race.  The invitation comes after Richard Petty accepted Tony Stewart's invitation for the seven-time champion to race sophomore NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Danica Patrick to a one-on-one race.

The challenge from Stewart and acceptance from Petty came after Petty vocally criticized Danica Patrick's driving skills, saying the only way the first and only female driver to qualify for a pole in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history could win a race is "if everybody else stayed home".

Franklin County Speedway offers a neutral site for the competitors as neither driver has raced at the 3/8-mile track in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Franklin County Speedway is a fast and tough track to race on that presents challenges for both drivers.  The one-on-one race can be held any day at any time of Petty and Patrick's choosing.

Franklin County Speedway track promoter Langley Austin will rent out racecars for the two drivers or Tony Stewart can bring his cars for them to race.

"Humpy Wheeler's not around to offer them a place to race so I'll be happy to step in and fill his shoes," Austin said.  "We'll rent out cars for them to race on or Tony Stewart can supply the cars for Danica and The King.  This is a challenging track but it's also a neutral site for both racers as neither driver has raced here before."

The race could easily be held on the night of Friday, March 28th or Saturday, March 29th as those dates fall on the same weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.  Franklin County Speedway is located only 44 miles away from Martinsville Speedway.
