Chief of Roanoke County Fire and Rescue honored with award

The Chief of Roanoke County Fire and Rescue is honored with the prestigious lifetime achievement award from the Virginia Fire Services Board.

Chief Rick Burch has worked in various departments across Virginia, serving a total of 42 years.

The decades of responding to countless calls, saving dozens of lives and leading new generations of fire fighters led to a single statue that now sits in his office.

“I just hope our citizens and I think they do, realize the dedication not just Roanoke County every fire and rescue department, public safety too, police officers, just how dedicated they are and what it takes to be a good fire EMS personnel, it takes a lot,” the chief explained.

He’s a third generation fire fighter.  His father and grandfather each served in the Richmond Fire Bureau for decades.
