Teen dead after deer comes through windshield in Pittsylvania County

A 13-year old boy is dead after police say a deer crashed through the windshield of the truck he was riding in.

Virginia State Police say
it happened Friday around 5:15 p.m. on Route 863 two tenths mile south of Route 874 in Pittsylvania County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado that was being operated by Kenneth Wayne Carter was traveling northbound on Route 863 when the vehicle hit a deer which came through the windshield on the passenger side compartment killing passenger Mason Wayne Carter, 13, of Mayodan, North Carolina.

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation
. Police say Carter was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
