Roanoke fire crews respond to 4th cooking fire

Posted: Updated:
Roanoke fire crews have responded to four cooking fires in a little more than a week.

Sunday crews responded to a cooking fire in the 400 block of Woods Avenue around 1:45 p.m.

There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the apartment's kitchen.

Two people who live in the complex are displaced due to smoke damage. Damages are approximately $5,000.

"This is the fourth cooking fire we've had in a little over a week with the largest fire being on Rutgers Street where two residents were sent to the hospital. Cooking is the number one cause of fire- keep an eye on what you heat and NEVER use water on a grease fire!" said a news release from Roanoke Fire and EMS.
