Website encourages New River Valley to 'Give Big'

Posted: Updated:
CHRISTIANSBURG - A new website is making it easier for you to give to your favorite charities. GiveBigNRV is designed to be a one-stop-shop for donations.

The Community Foundation of the New River Valley started the site to make it easier for people to help local organizations. There are dozens of pages set up on site right now for non-profits raising money for their missions. "We want everybody to feel comfortable with giving back, regardless of how they do it," said Jessica Wirgau with the Community Foundation. "But we also know people want it to be convenient. They want to go to one place to find their favorite cause or favorite no-profit."

Donors can make one-time or recurring gifts to any of the Community Foundation's more than 150 endowed funds or give directly to any nonprofit organization signed up to be featured on the site, such as the Lyric Theater in Blacksburg, The Jacksonville Center in Floyd, New River Community Action, NRV CARES or Literacy Volunteers of the NRV.

The Community Foundation of the New River Valley gives grants and scholarships that benefit organizations and students in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties. Next month, the organization plans to draw attention to the importance of charitable giving through Giving Day. The April 23rd event will allow donors to give to their favorite cause in a 24 hour period and make the organization eligible for a matching grant up to $1000.
