 The National Transportation Safety Board continues its hearing into cruise ship safety covering safety, operations and oversight today. Witnesses include officials from several cruise lines like Carnival and Norwegian.

A U.S. Senate subcommittee will hold a hearing today on the current readiness of the nation's armed forces. High-ranking officers from each branch of the service will testify before the readiness and management support subcommittee.

Attorney General Mark R. Herring's statewide public safety tour will bring him to Roanoke and Bristol today. He'll talk with public safety and law enforcement officers about the challenges they face. Herring will be in Roanoke City council chambers at 10 a.m. and Bristol City Hall at 2:00 p.m..

Today is Purple Day, an effort to raise awareness about epilepsy. People around the world are encouraged to wear purple in a show of support.
