Advance Auto Parts to hold 'mini marathon' for employees

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA - Workers at Advance Auto Parts will really be active and moving in the office today as the company promotes health and wellness through a work day mini marathon.

WSLS has shown you inside the complex before. The company offers employees treadmill work stations, stand-up desks and exercise balls to use in lieu of traditional chairs. The space at Crossroads Mall even has open space for walking.

At 2:00 p.m. Thursday, that area will be transformed into a track for employees to walk or run along in what Advance Auto is calling its first ever mini marathon. "Activity is the one thing we need to do more of and again," said Richard Robbins, Vice President of Human Resources. "Whether it's 15 minutes on a break or at the beginning of the day, again we have this great space here and we want to remind team members of the opportunity they have to walk and be active."

Employees will also be provided with water and snacks. Wellness vendors, including local gyms and massage therapists will also be on site to share information. Company officials hope the activity will encourage workers to form exercise groups. "We're trying perhaps to get a few teams together for some of the upcoming races and walks in the area so we're hoping this may get people started toward that as well," Robbins said.
