UVA Fans Are Finding Ways to Show Spirit During March Madness

Posted: Updated:
Four year old Alexander Johnson may be one of UVA's biggest fans.

"The ACC Championship game was probably the best day for a UVA sports fan that I can remember," explains Josh Johnson.

It was also the day Josh's son Alex belted out The Good Old Song.  He sings the UVA fight song as louds as possible as he runs around the house.

UVA fans across our area are excited to see Tony Bennett and the UVA Cavaliers take on Michigan in the Sweet Sixteen Friday night.

"M
y brother, sister, myself and my wife all went to UVA.  Alex has been...brainwashed," says Johnson.

Seventeen of the attorneys at Gentry Locke Rakes and Moore have some sort of  UVA degree.  As far as becoming a young fan like Alex, they say it is easy to do.

"It proves the point that brainwashing can work.  My father graduated from UVA in 1964.  I became a UVA basketball fan in 1979 when Ralph Sampson signed.  I saw him play his first game at the Roanoke Civic Center," explains fellow attorney, Kevin Holt.

Suzanne Keck brought her UVA garden flag in to hang by her desk.  She has worked as an assistant in the office for the past 8 years.

"It is awesome to work on this corner because I am surrounded by Wahoos," says Keck.

"It is exciting and to share it with my colleagues.  It is a lot of fun," says Johnson.

These Wahoos each told me they picked out their favorite UVA tie for our interview because someone told them I am a Hokie fan.  We should follow up on that one this fall.

For now, for Alex here's to UVA making to the Elite 8.
