Retiring JCPD officer awarded with White House flag from Phil Roe

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

After almost four decades serving as a Johnson City police officer, one man got a few surprises at his retirement celebration, one all the way from D.C.

Bob Tallman had no idea his friends, family, and fellow officers would be joining him today at one of his favorite spots, Chick-Fil-A.

“My partner that I work with has been working on something for about four months, and he wouldn't tell me exactly what it was just to be here, I'm completely surprised,” Tallman said.

He also didn't know Congressman Phil Roe would be there presenting him with a flag that flew over the capital building.

Congressman Roe served as mayor for a few of the years Tallman served as an officer.

Tallman said one of the things in retirement he's looking forward to most is spending more time with his two year old grandson.
